Power Distribution & Capacitors Overview
Managing your power allocation—commonly referred to as managing your Pips—is what dictates how effectively your ship recharges its active combat systems.
Diverting power does not simply increase maximum shield health or raw engine speed; instead, it directly controls the recharge rate and capacitor capacity of three main sub-systems: Weapons, Shields, and Engines.
The Three Power Capacitors
- Weapons (WEP): Determines how quickly your laser ammo recharges and increases the maximum shot capacity before weapons drain.
- Shields (SHD): Accelerates shield regen speed and reduces the delay before broken shield faces begin recovering after taking damage.
- Engines (ENG): Accelerates boost meter recharge speed, allowing for more frequent high-G maneuvers and spacebrake (X) stops.
Power Allocation Controls
You can adjust your power distribution instantly on the fly using either default keybind presets or manual directional adjustments:
- Maximize Weapons: Press F5 (or Up Arrow) to push maximum power to WEP.
- Maximize Engines: Press F6 (or Left Arrow) to push maximum power to ENG.
- Maximize Shields: Press F7 (or Right Arrow) to push maximum power to SHD.
- Reset Power (50 / 50 / 50): Press F8 (or Down Arrow) to balance power evenly across all three systems.
Suggested Presets for Combat & Travel
Offensive Engagement
- Primary Focus: Weapons / Engines
- Power Preset: Max WEP / Split ENG
- Purpose: Maximizes gun ammo recharge rate to sustain peak DPS during firing passes
Defensive / Resetting
- Primary Focus: Shields / Engines
- Power Preset: Max SHD / Split ENG
- Purpose: Maximizes shield recovery speed while disengaging or resetting combat spacing
Interceptor / Chasing
- Primary Focus: Engines
- Power Preset: Max ENG
- Purpose: Keeps boost constantly topped off to close distance or match agile, evasive targets
Cruise / Non-Combat Travel
- Primary Focus: Balanced
- Power Preset: Reset Power (F8)
- Purpose: Keeps all system capacitors passively ready without starving any single node
Power Distribution Strategy Tips
- Recharge Delays: Shields do not regenerate instantly while actively taking hit fire. Put power into SHD the moment you break line-of-sight or gain separation to accelerate face recovery.
- Boost Management: When running low on boost during tight maneuvering, brief taps to Max ENG (F6) quickly restore your meter before shifting back to WEP.
- Never Stay Static: Top pilots constantly adjust pips throughout a dogfight—shifting to WEP when placing guns on target, and immediately shifting to SHD or ENG when under heavy return fire.
